I hear that American society is more individualistic...so, it may be true that people are 'self absorbed'.

In Asia...I speak for India...people are, or rather were, group-oriented...and hence are more obsessed with others. Here, people keep themselves busy with 'neighbours' business than setting their own house in order, LOL!

As for the DREAM...Americans, I guess, keep trying on husbands/wives till they meet one with specification...but we make do with what we get, with a few nicks and tucks!

They 'absorb' stray kids and dogs into homes....we let them roam for all (or none) to take care...
