Black Swan is about A New York City ballet company is producing Swan Lake, and director Thomas Leroy (Cassel) decides to replace prima ballerina Beth MacIntyre (Ryder) with ballerina Nina (Portman). Nina lives with Erica (Hershey), her overbearing mother and a former ballerina. Nina finds competition in new dancer Lily (Kunis). Swan Lake requires a ballerina who can play the innocent White Swan, which fits Nina, and the sensual Black Swan, which fits Lily. The dancers' rivalry changes into a bizarre friendship, and Nina begins exploring a dark side of herself.

What is a REALLY good Ballet College or University?...?

Hey, so I live in Canada. Graduating next and year and my ultimate dream is to be a ballerina in a lead performance for THE best ballet theater there is... Where should I go after grad?

Most ballet companies take apprentices at 17 years of age and ballet dancers put off college until their careers are over. This is because the career is so short. If you are not coming from another company, they rarely take anyone in their twenties who is starting off. If you have the body and the training, I am sure your teachers have told you that. You should audition for the affiliate school of a ballet company you wish to dance in. If they take you, you will spend a year learning their repertoire and style in class and then made an apprentice with the company. After a year of being an apprentice you are asked to join the company. That is how it is done.

Keep in mind your competition will be girls who have been at the affiliate school since age 7 and take 20-30 hours of class a week. I am not saying you can't do it, if you have had similar training at a ballet academy elsewhere. If you are not taking a schedule of classes like that, it is doubtful this will happen for you. Those are the real facts as you will undoubtedly find out.
