Lincicome finds time for success

If she can fit it into her schedule, Brittany Lincicome just might win the Bell Micro LPGA Classic today.
   
She's certainly put herself in position, shooting a 5-under 67 to give her a share of the lead with Se Ri Pak and Suzann Pettersen. 
   
Not bad for someone who didn't pick up a golf club last week because there were other items on her to-do list. Saturday, when she finished her round and media obligations, Lincicome didn't head to the practice range. Instead, she hopped in a car and headed to Hank Aaron Stadium to catch the Mobile BayBears' game.
   
Maybe she was inspired by winning the home run derby that took place Tuesday night at The Hank for some of the golfers. "My legs were more sore this morning than they were (Wednesday)," Lincicome said with a laugh.
   
Inspiration is a word that's being used a lot in association with Lincicome, a 24-year-old St. Petersburg, Fla., native who has a big game and, as more and more golf fans are coming to understand, an even bigger heart. Both have played a role in putting her in position to win the Bell Micro this week.
   
She is one of (taylormade burner irons)10 celebrities chosen for Mattel's "Can Be" program associated with Barbie and influencing young girls to reach their goals. Lincicome is also associated with the USGA's junior golf promotion and with Veins For Life, a cancer advocacy group that aims to make cancer patients aware of their treatment options.
   
When she makes it to the golf course, she's doing pretty well there, too. She already has three career wins, including a major championship.
   
Although admitting to nervousness on the first tee Saturday that led to a bad tee shot and her only bogey of the day, Lincicome said she believes she has a low score in her for today.
   
If not, well, there's always something else to take her mind off the golf.
   
"It's nice to be able to give back," Lincicome said of the many charities. "To do what I do for a living and to be able to help charities and do little outings here and there, that's nothing. I love to be able to help. It takes a little time away (from golf preparations), but that's fine. I love doing those things.
   
"I just love being able to help out and give some of my time. The things I get to do, it's an honor. It's an honor to be out here and to be able to do the things that I get to do. It's crazy; I get to play golf and I get paid (to do so)."
     
   
She's pretty good right now and today, going head-to-head with Pak — an LPGA and World Golf Hall of Famer — and Pettersen — another bright and shooting star on the LPGA Tour — she could demonstrate just how good she is, and how good she could be.
