Blue Light Therapy Triggers Our Bodies To Be Active And Energetic And Regulates Our Mood

Light therapy has been used for many years in the therapy of many disorders. The light of the sun is made up of tiny packets of energy called photons. In countries with long winters, many people experience lack of energy and low spirits due to lack of light. It's known as the winter blues.

In The Netherlands, researchers are currently initiating a study comparing the use of bright blue light to dim red light for relief of major depression (not Seasonal Affective Disorder) in subjects 60 years and older. It will be interesting to learn whether bright blue light therapy provide an impact on non-seasonal depression in the elderly. Independent clinical research shows that the blue light from the summer sky triggers our bodies to be active and energetic, and regulates our mood.

Researchers at the Mood Disorders Clinic in the University of Utah Health Sciences Clinic compared the response of subjects under bright blue light compared to those of subjects under bright red light. Subjects under bright blue lights experienced significantly greater relief from either Seasonal Affective Disorder  (SAD) alone or Seasonal Affective Disorder combined with general depression than subjects under bright red lights.

Research has shown that light therapy use, even for as little as 15 minutes a day, can significantly cut down these symptoms by providing your body with the required amount of light exposure. otherwise lacking during the darker months of the year. Blue light therapy effectively mimics the natural patterns and spectrum of sunlight that our bodies need most. And best of all, light therapy  provides a natural and affordable method of treating winter blues without using artificial stimulants or drugs.

Blue light not only makes light therapy more convenient but also easier on the eyes because lower intensity means less glare, eyestrain and headaches.
