Why did my hair turned red when i dyed it gray?

My hair is solid black!! and i wanted to dye it gray to show my matureness. By the way I'm 15 M
So i bleached my hair for 30 mintue, rinsed it out then dye it. The dye was orange but i thought it was just going to wash off after and show the gray. So another 30 minute went by and i took a shower. and i came out with a BRITE RED close to orange hair . It's awful too! Today was my school picture day. But i wanted to jump in the pool cuz i heard the chlorene rince off the dye. Should i do it??? Also can anyone tell me what i did wrong?
