i have a metal or aluminum crochet hook. i am using cotton yarn. my hook is catching a bit when i use it.?

what can i do to keep it slick? it isnt catching alot but its noticeable. or i could be imagining it. any ideas? i know there are tricks for this for wooden hooks. any help would be great thanks!
there are no ragged or rough spots it just isnt as smooth when i crochet.

Feel the hook with your finger tip. if you find a jagged or rough spot you can sand it with a SOFT or FINE nail file or buffer. A coarse file could cause more jagged spots.
