Augular Momentum Urushi Watch Collection-Shows the Charm of Japanese Lacquer and Culture

It seems that Angular Momentum loves to add different cultureson its timepieces. On the Angular Momentum Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal Watch,  for example, we learn the landmark buildding and a legendary love story from Intian. Now, Angular Momentum introduces us the charm of the the ancient natural Japanese lacquer and a various patterns that represent part of Japanese culture by launching the Urushi watch collection. I do appreciate what Angular Momentum does now as it leads me into not only a unique watch brand but also diverse cultures that I may never know before.

Urushi refers to a specialized sap a tree native to Japan called Varnish or Lacquer tree. When it dries, the sap is very hard ans smooth but not that colorful as what you see on the dials of the watches. So how the dials are colored? Well, they are colored with iron or ferric oxide.

The pictured are part of the Urushi collection(totally 15 pieces listed on the official site) and also my favorite.The watches are done is stainless steel, 42mm and water resistant to 30 meters, and powered by mechanical self-winding lever movement with 25 Jewels.each fitted with 3mm-thick sapphire crystal and  calf leather strap.

Why does my crystal radio have so much interference?

it has as many turns of small lacquer wire that will fit on a 4x6 inch abs pipe. it picks up FM mostly and if i turn the variable cap all the way to the right i might pick up some AM. i have so much interference its just ridiculous i have had times where it comes in perfectly clear on FM (106.7 KROQ) and is loud. (my radio is a Hybrid. it has an amplifier connected in line with the crystal radio. everything but the coil is enclosed in a black project box accept for the on switch volume knob and the tuning knob also the light to indicate its on) i found that turning my coil upright and also stuffing the inside with tinfoil makes it way louder but i still have that annoying buzz.

A crystal radio is an AM detector. You are getting FM by Slope detection. The reason for all the noise is that for the radio to cover the range from 500 KHz to 108 MHZ to get both AM and FM it has little or no selectivity. That means the it's tuned to an approximate frequency and picking up everything for some range of frequencies around that. Such a wide coverage radio receiver with the simple circuit of a crystal radio can not have much selectivity and will be as open to interference as a barn door. That's one of the reasons the more complex radios, like TRF, Super Regenerative and Super Hetrodyne were developed. Also a discriminator for proper reception of an FM signal instead of using SLOPE detection as you must be with a diode detector would allow for better selectivity.
