1:12 Scale?- need help with sizing/understanding........?

Hi,

I love miniatures and know what the 1:12 scale is. But, now I'm wondering if I actually understand it!

So, let's see if I've got this right... A dollhouse doll might be anywhere from 5 inches tall to 6 inches tall. If they are, then they'd be the equivalent of a 5 or 6 foot person. Right? An Inch for every foot?

Sooo, if that's correct, how tall would a cat be and how tall would a kitten be?

Also, wikipedia's definition said it could be centimeters OR inches... When buying miniatures, how can I tell which it is if no size is given?

One foot would equal to 12 inches.
An in would be "As long as this line." From quotation to quotation." Your scaling is off by a lot.
