Different Styles of Bed Skirts

Bed skirts are available for any budget and are sold everywhere from discount superstores to pricey department stores. Before purchasing a bed skirt, measure the distance from the top of the box spring to the floor to find the length of drop needed.

Bed skirts come in different fabrics; they can be purchased in neutral colors. Some manufacturers create entire bedding sets, so that bed skirts, comforters, accent pillows and even curtains coordinate.

There are three most popular bed skirts: ruffled, box pleated and straight. The fabric of a ruffled skirt is gathered at the top, making the skirt appear fuller. A box pleated skirt features pleats several inches wide, all around the skirt. A straight skirt falls right from the panel to the floor. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for washing and caring for bed linens. While many bed skirts are machine washable, some prefer to have pleated skirts professionally dry-cleaned and pressed to avoid ironing all those pleats by hand.

While usually not the most eye-catching element of a bedroom, a bed skirt with a coordinating color and texture can add to the overall harmony of the room, helping to create a peaceful refuge for the occupant. Therefore it is a hard job to decorate a bedroom to have a good enjoyment.

For a gathered skirt, would I need 2 or 3 yards?

It's meant to be a lolita skirt so I would be wearing a petticoat. I was originally thinking 2 yards but now I'm not so sure.

For just a simple gathered skirt, a good rule of thumb is to measure your hips and use approximately 2-3 times as much fabric as your hip measurement, but the amount doesn't have to be exact - feel free to round up or down some. For example, if your hips measure 36", buy 72" (2 yds) for moderate but nice fullness and up to 108" (3 yds) for extreme fullness. If you're doing a petticoat, go with the larger measurement. Remember that'll you'll be cutting your waistband out of the fabric, too.
