why is my grandfather who is german and French very dark skinned?

My grandfather is mostly German with a little bit of French. i was wondering why he had such dark complexions compared to most Germans with lighter skin and blond hair. As a result all his children carry out his darker complexions and all look Spanish or Portuguese. Could he possibly have some tartar or turk in him that he isnt telling me about? was there ever a big diaspora of arabs in germany to cause these mixes?

It's so funny that it is so odd that some Europeans can be dark... People in the US are brainwashed to think all Europeans are bleach-blonde, blue eyed... Do you know how much admixture in Europe there has been for thousands of years!? A lot. Besides that, even the basic European tribes themselves had dark-haired members, and those with tanned skin. It's all in your mind... things are VERY fluid. For instance, if you were to see a tan European in Mexico, you would think they were "just Mexican"... when really, they are more European that white people from Utah...LOL. (I just had to use that example, because I've had first-hand experience with that situation and idiotic friends)
