Laundry Practices To Make Ironing Easier

 

 

Believe it or not, the laundering process is brutal on clothing. No one would think water, detergent and bleach, not to mention the toll from the heat from ironing whether using steam or not causes. With the price of everything going up, discovering a way to save a little money is a nice interruption. Since our clothing takes a rather sizable reoccurring bite in our income, why not start their with ways to help stretch an already tight dollar. Steam ironing your clothing is a great way to save on your cleaning bill, but implementing the below tactics will do wonders.

 

Back in the day, the women would beat clothes on a rock to get the dirt out. Granted, clothing was thicker for durability back then, but that surely put a stress load on your coverings. Today, thinner clothes and the wash cycle has replaced the rock, but is no less harsh to our clothing. So the best practice is to Follow the manufacturer's directions for use of the appliance. That alone will help tremendously. Remember that for most of us,we no longer have to plow the back forty. So we don't have to run the longest cycle to get the soil, grease and smell out. The less vigor in the wash cycle the better.

 

Though in small amounts, laundry detergents have caustic properties, so too much increases the eroding away of the fabric. Especially natural fibers. Use only the directed amount. Take any coins, sharp objects, wood, etc. from the pockets of your garments. With the rubbing together of the garments in the wash and spin cycle, it's easy to tear a hole in your clothing. Use a water softener in your wash cycle to reduce the harshness of hard water. Opt to hang your items in the sun to dry. If you choose to to use the dryer, don't over load the dryer causing a longer drying time for the laundry. All that tumbling and heat wreaks havoc on natural fibers. Take the extra minutes to immediately fold or place your garments on a hanger (those that are approved for hangers of course). This lessens wrinkles; making ironing quicker and less in need of pressure to get rid of wrinkles.

 

When ironing your clothes, don't run over buttons and zippers. Those are the first places to fade and grow thin. Always iron low temp garments first and increase to thicker higher temp ones. This resists fiber wear from too much heat on delicate fabrics. Most definitely: Follow the temperature settings for fabrics on the steam iron's selector. Keeping these simple tips in mind will keep you steam ironing the same wardrobe for far longer than you used to, thereby, saving a little cha-ching!
