Hair Root Stimulators - Promoting Hair Regrowth

Hair root stimulators have become a key component in many hair loss regimes.  Many have found hair regrowth successful when using root stimulators to increase circulation and nutrients to the follicle shaft and root - especially when used in conjunction with hair vitamins or concentrated topical applications.

Also known and referred to as "follicle stimulators", hair root stimulators use topical applications to restore hair growth by using either botanical extracts for formulations to help the follicle root receive and maintain nutrition and microcirculation. Minoxidil®, like Trichogen®, is used in varying strengths and focus on inhibiting or neutralizing conversion of 5-alpha-reductase enzymes to DHT - the leading cause of pre-mature male balding. DHT restricts circulation to the scalp and follicle root and - over time - diminishes nutrient delivery, thus "starving" the root leading to shedding and loss.

Trichogen has become increasing popular and is used in concentrated topical applications and stimulants. ProFolla® and manufacturers like Nioxin® have developed products using Trichogen® or Trichogen-like complexes for restoration. Trichogen® is a combination of active, natural ingredients such as Ginseng, Fenugreek and Biotin and is often combined with Panthenol and Arginine to invigorate and stimulate natural hair growth.

Improving Hair Health and Strength

Though stopping DHT and restoring growth is the main priority of stimulators, most are designed to improve overall hair health. Panthenol and Biotin, for instance are known for improving the appearance of thinning hair by adding moisture to the root and follicle shaft as well as improving elasticity, reducing breaking and helping heal split ends and heat damage from styling.

Hair root stimulators are formulated for just that - stimulate new hair growth. Hair loss products formulated with Trichogen® or Minoxidil® have been shown effective at hair restoration while improving circulation and infusing vitamins and minerals. Can I dye over recently dyed hair roots?

I use "natural" herbal type hair dyes and they have always worked wonderfully.

However I tried a new brand last night (my favorite is no longer available where I've moved to) and my roots are now a bright copper red (I was dying it to try and match the rest of my already dyed hair which is a very dark brown!) which definitely wasn't the color promised on the pack.

Needless to say I look ridiculous.

How soon can I dye over the top of these red roots with an even darker hair herbal dye?

As long as your hair is in relatively good shape already, you can go ahead and dye it again asap. If you go to a stylist they're going to dye it too anyway.

Beware that your roots may turn out a slightly different color than the rest of your hair even after you redye it. Colors turn out as (colors already in your hair) + (color of dye you add). Don't use a warm brown to redye it because it might add to the red.

I don't know much about herbal dyes, but if you're dying your hair a darker color than your natural color, try using a demi-permanent color. It'll damage your hair less and won't leave a clear line where it has grown out (it fades gradually). It also won't leave you with red roots because they can't lift (lighten) your hair color.
