How can I stretch a mans felt hat to fit me better?

I have a felt hat that is snug on me and want to stretch it to fit a little better. I am not sure of the actual style, probably a fedora.

First you have to remove the inner band which functions to keep the hat from stretching. If the hat fits without the inner band, jut turn the hat inside out and reattachthe band (see below --stab stitch) If the hat was made with separate brim and crown stitched together, Remove any of that stitching which would keep the hat from stretching. Thy it on at this point; maybe it will fit. If the hat is still too tight, carefully use a steaming tea kettle about 1 min. each 3" or so along the part where the brim joins the crown (the part that fits around your head ) put the hat on your head to stretch it. Turn the hat inside out to replace the inner band. When sewing the hat back together, use stab stitch (needle straight through, 1 stitch at a time) Be careful not to pull the thread too tightly, or you may make the hat too small again. Just take your time and work carefully.A good hat is worth doing right and a hat that fits is a pleasure to wear. Hope this helps.
