Fireplaces in New Houses

 

Most modern and new Houses are built without a flue of Chimney. This is a common practice by builders to save money on building a flue to take a gas fire.

It is also thought that as all new houses have central heating there is no need for fireplaces.

I believe this to be a common Mistake by the designers of new houses, as enquiries from people buying new properties without a built in flue has increased over the last few years.

This is because a fireplace is not only a thing of warmth but also a focal point of a living room, and gives a room the feeling of warmth even if the fire is not lit.

Don't be put off by the word Electric, thinking this will be costly to run. It is quite the opposite. as all new houses have central heating there is often no need for additional heat. Most electric fires have a flame affect that works separately to the heat source, modern advances in electronics have also reduced the power consumption of electric fires.

Electric fires with seperate heat / feature / light settimgs allows the owner to have a warm cosy look without using the heat. This unfortunately is not the case with gas fires, to see a flame effect in gas fires requires the actual fire to be burning therefore consuming gas.

Electric fireplaces definately have advantages over gas fires and many home are turning to Electric fireplaces for their features, no mess, low cost and fit anywhere features.

Electric fireplaces are also ideal for flats, apartments, multi occupancy dwellings where no outide walls may be available. As not flue is rwquired you do not need to fit your fireplace to an outside wall  this makes fitting an Electric fireplace very easy, with little or no experience necessary, with in most cases only a plug to fit before your fireplace becomes useable.
