The latest discussion was caused by ticket fares from New York to Omaha, Nebraska for flights at the beginning of May. But, of course, the higher fares cause more anger from passengers and journalists than the lower ones.

How difficult is it to fly a JUMBO JET with a SPACE SHUTTLE bolted to the roof?

Every time I see that on the news I wonder just how hard it is to fly like that? Is it like a gigantic Bi-Plane in flight? Does it take forever to lift off the runway? How about landing?

You would have a total change in the aerodynamic properties of the airplane with a shuttle on top. The plane would have a lot more drag without any increase in the size of the control surfaces. This would seem to make the plane loaded down with the shuttle, much less responsive than it would be after the shutter departs or even than it would be carrying a payload within its walls. All you have to do to understand drag is stick you hand out of your car window driving down the highway.
