The Statue of Liberty

New York

Initially known as "Liberty Enlightening the World", this contemporary Colossus is situated on the New York harbor. Its marvelous stature, symbolize international liberty and is recognized internationally. The gorgeous Lady liberty is dressed in graceful robes and a stately coronet. She has a torch, elevated in her right hand, and a book emblazoned with” July 4, 1776" in the left. At her base lie broken shackles that symbolize the defeat of oppression in the new country.

The renowned sculptor of France, Frederic Auguste Bartholdi was specially made to plan an imposing sculpture to soon become world renowned. Bartholdi needed the help of an engineer to deal with structural matter connected with planning such a colossal copper statue. Alexandre Gustave Eiffel the person who made the design of the Eiffel Tower was specially made to plan the enormous iron pylon and less important very thin structure, which permits the statuette copper skin to shift separately and yet rest standing. Bartholdi and the French were accountable for the statue itself and America was given the responsibility of raising the pedestal. Due to lack of money, Bartholdi was not able to complete the figure in time for the centenary celebration. The French used public amount; diverse variety of entertainment, and the lottery were different types of techniques to elevate funds.
The Statue of Liberty was presented to America by the French in 1886 and has been a representation for America ever since. It is also a reception symbol for the people who visit America. It was frequently the primary thing that the people saw when they reached America.

The Statue was finished, by sculptor Frèdèric Bartoldi in France, as a centenary present, in July, 1884 and reached New York Harbor in June of 1885 on board the French frigate "Isere" which sent the Statue of Liberty from France to the United States. In transfer, the Statue was condensed to 350 independent pieces and jam-packed in 214 crates. The Statue was re-arranged on her original base in four months time. On October 28th 1886, the Statue of Liberty was opened to the general public. She was a centenary gift ten years behind.

Tourists to the statue of liberty mount up approximately 354 steps in all to get to the top, where they are able to find 25 windows, representing the 25 gemstones of the Earth. A visitor can look up through one of the windows and see the seven sharp crowns, in place of the seven continents and seven seas of the planet.

On a breezy day the figurine will bend 3 inches if the wind speed are up to 50 miles per hour and the torch will lean 5 inches

Why does Lady Liberty have a crown on her head?

Daughter's social studies question of the week.....;please help i can't find anything

Assuming that the real reason wasn't for aesthetics, the crown would symbolize that Liberty is supreme, above all else.

That would mean that we, as a nation that accepts that statue as an icon, should revere and respect Liberty above all other considerations, including political differences, social engineering, environmental fads, and racial problems.

Perhaps it is time to change the crown to a jester's cap. There's actually a very small minority in this country that even understand Liberty, let alone cherish it above all else.
