Well I've read the book and written some pretty kickass essays on Kesey's work... but I'm not going to write your essay for you. I can help define what it's asking of you, though.

The question is HOW does Kesey show certain themes. In other words, it's asking what literary techniques he uses to demonstrate to the reader his ideas about the struggle and the effects of rebellion and revolution. How does he make his point? So you need to figure out what he's trying to say about the nature of these themes, and once you've got that, explain how he communicated such.

For example, one statement he made was that sometimes rebellion comes at a price for the individual. Sometimes the oppressive forces of society (which the asylum represented) can be overwhelming and the higher power may be of such a dominating and destructive nature that even the fighting individualist is crushed beneath its hand. He shows the sheer unbridled power of society and the struggle which faces those who fight for revolution through his use of metaphor: the asylum is a microcosm (a smaller model) of the outside world, while Nurse Ratched represents the oppressive forces within it. And so on and so forth.
