How does Madame Alexander compare to American Girl?

My 7 year old daughter wants an AG doll, but I am not willing to pay $95 for a doll. I also have been researching all of the different kinds of dolls. I see that Madame Alexander dolls have 1/2 a chest plate so that when they wear tank tops you can't see the soft body. I am concerned about the durability of the Madame Alexander dolls. I've heard that AG stands firmly behind their product and they are well worth the money.

The Madame Alexander dolls are very well made. I think they are prettier than the American Girls but the American Girls are still better quality and their accessories are great.
