Reincarnation: Cup of Karma Anyone?

Most people don't recall having lived before; however, ever increasing numbers of people are beginning to remember. Whether this is due to greater communication networks being able to report vast amounts of information quicker or that the population on earth today is the largest it's ever been in history; is a matter of speculation. What is fact is an ever increasing mountain of evidence that is leaving less and less room for debate.

Recalling the Past

At the turn of the century, one of the most bizarre cases of reincarnation came to light through an English woman turned Egyptian archeologist, Dorothy Eady. Not only was she able to recall remarkable details of a past life in Egypt as a Priestess to Sety I, but she also gave astounding evidence through her uncanny ability to describe the layout of the temple site which was later validated through careful excavation of the site.[1. Edgar Cayce, "The Sleeping Prophet", was another turn of the century individual who not only recounted personal details of reincarnations but also instructed others in their own past life experiences as well. Given the name Sleeping Prophet, Cayce was well known for his ability to enter into a deep trance wherein he was then able to access the Akashik Records; a hall of records containing visual information about each soul's lives on earth. Leaping into the more modern scene is a psychiatrist educated at Yale University, Dr. Brian Weiss, who has reportedly regressed more than 4,000 patients in an effort to help them recover past life experiences. Dr. Weiss has written seven books covering the subject of reincarnation which document the chronology of experiences of several patients who were not only regressed to previous lives but in between lives (spiritual) encounters. To this day, Dr. Weiss still gives lectures and workshops designed to help facilitate a greater understanding of the topic of past life recall.[3. Finding the Past in the Present

Just exactly, how does a person regress or recall an experience in a past life, and how do you know if it's real or not? Although there are a number of methods of regressive recall, the more important question of validity is a matter of how much the information obtained leads to a greater insight of our present circumstances and life purpose. Fascinating as it may seem to recall a life as a famous or infamous person; notoriety does have its drawbacks. Having been a squandering rich King in a previous lifetime may mean you'd come back as a poverty stricken beggar in this one. As Karma would have it, there's always a practical side to spirituality.

Karma comes from Sanskrit meaning act, action, or performance. The Indian religious concept of this action or deed is further clarified to represent a cycle of cause and effect. In-other-words, what you do will come back and visit you; or simply put, cosmic payback through lessons learned. Actually, payback is a bit of a misnomer that implies an act of vengeance, which it is not. In terms of spirituality, vengeance has nothing to do in the process of development; rather it is growth through experiential contrasts of being. To everything there is a season and for that season a meaning of its own.

Whether the Dahlia Lama or a simple peasant from an impoverished countryside, all is like fleeting moments of purpose drawing towards a common goal. One young lady recalled during her regression being witness to a hanging. When asked why it seemed important she replied, "I chose that lifetime so I could experience being a spectator to a hanging." Strange as it may seem, yes we do choose our circumstances both triumphs and tribulations. As to the one being hung, perhaps he needed to learn the value of consequences in turn. Though he chose to be a villain in that lifetime, his journey and consequences were not without spiritual merit.

Sometimes in our haste for personal recognition we forget that the most important aspect of being is of the life we've chosen and how we lead it. Having heroes is a wonderful part of life if we keep in mind that the adulation for the moment is a reflection of the best we have within us. For the sake of being a little too preachy on this, let it simply be said that the best place to find clues of the past can be seen in the present.

Methods of Regression

One thing that really needs to be addressed at this point is that not everyone can or should look for evidence of past lives. There is an old saying that goes, "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear." The same holds true for regression, when you're ready it will make its self known. Some may walk through life with never a clue of a past life, while others will know from an early age. All is a matter of the right information at the right time that will enhance our greater needs for growth.

Spontaneous Recall: Several years ago while sitting in my living room in a deep trance, an imaged flashing into my mind's eye of a nun dressed in a habit. A little startled by this image, a voice came from within telling me her name, where she lived, that she was considered a saint by the Catholic Church, and she was me in a previous life. After a moment of deliberating how incredulous all of this sounded, I went to the computer to look up the name and pedigree of the person I was given. To my surprise, there was a nun by that name from that country who was canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church.

This could be considered a form of spontaneous recall that occurred during a trance or hypnotic state. Although most any recall could be considered spontaneous, the term here refers to the lack of external prompting or direction. When spontaneous recall occurs there are typically no apparent triggers that lead to the new found insight. The only drawback to this form of regression is that the subject may, more than likely, dismiss it as a form of fantasy or day dreaming.

Hypnotic Regression: This method is a more formal and directed approach which usually involves finding a trained hypnotherapist that specializes in past life regression. Contrary to general myths surrounding hypnosis, there is no danger and you do maintain complete self control. The subconscious mind is very suggestible; however, you can never be forced to do something you would not otherwise do while fully awake and aware.

Everyone at one time or another has lapsed into some form of self-hypnosis, whether it be while reading a book, listening to music, or driving a car down the road. Have you ever done something and then later you couldn't remember what exactly it was you did? Driven from point A to point B only to realize you can't remember some of the trip in between? These are all forms of self-hypnosis and although you weren't directly aware of it, you're subconscious mind was doing the directing. We can even hypnotize ourselves while reading a book or listening to a boring lectures (my favorite).

Being hypnotized by another person is essentially the same thing as self-hypnosis except you have a tour guide to help navigate the way. This is not only much more efficient but can prove very helpful when it comes to dealing with more traumatic issues of past lives as well. As mentioned earlier when driving from point A to point B, you may not be able to recall specifics under lone circumstances where as having assistance in the process could prove very useful.

Radom Associations: Of all the methods, this one is probably the least efficient and reliable although in some instances it can prove to be an excellent aid. Random associations are much akin to feeling your way around in the dark blindfolded. You might stumble across a clue here and there but for the most part you may not have the overall picture. Essentially it is your conscious mind allowing your unconscious mind to send signals of cold and hot.

To start the random associations, you might consider going to a library and browsing through the history and/or geography sections to see if anything sparks your interest. Start keeping a diary or list of what does or does not spark a little more investigation. After you've narrowed down the general area of interest, start studying the historical time-line and see if there's a particular time period of interest. Yes, this is a time consuming and tedious form of past life research but it can yield surprising results for the patient at heart. In fact, the very act of searching can lead to unforeseen revelations in and of its self.

Conclusion

If you're interested in past life regression, chances are there are valid reasons underlying the urge. Most times it is something related to what you're dealing with in the present lifetime, something that can shed a new light on a few unanswered questions. Religious beliefs are an important consideration when considering past life regression. What is more important though is your own personal need to find open, honest answers to those important unanswered questions that may be coming to surface.

There are many means of retrieving past life information confidentially and professionally as discussed above. In addition, there may be other methods not covered here that may be equally valid such as seeing a psychic, visiting a museum, or simply attending lectures on the subject. As with any worthwhile journey, sometimes it's not the goal that is most important but the process of getting there that yields the richest rewards.

What's wrong with the way I dress?

I personally always thought I had style (lol). Not the best style but it was my style. My style is very rigged. I mostly wear v-necks, skinny jeans, and sort off lumberjack shirts. I guess I don't have the best posture and my hair is very simple just straight with bangs, it can be pretty messy. I have a style that makes it seem like I don't care about what I'm wearing apparently, when I do. It's also pretty conservative. Because of this people say that I look very young: 12, when I am 18. So I was wondering what is wrong with my style? My friends and parents give me hell about it.
Emily: I guess more on the preppy side, which is strange because in most groups of friends everyone is similar.

I see nothing wrong with that style, I dress like that! ...although, that probably doesn't help your case because I'm only 14 lol. But maybe the reason they bug you so much about it is because you're about to go into college and eventually apply for a job so you need to dress in a more professional and sophisticated manner?
