Carpets are available in various designs and colors and are used to beautify the houses and also keep them warm. But it is always your choice that what do you want to have in your room as underfoot. In today's world when the tiles and ceramics have become really costly, carpets give your space a perfect look at an affordable price. Also you can change the flooring as and when required. This helps to bring change to your home and environment and saves you from the boredom of monotony. Three major styles of the carpets are in vogue in the world. These are cut pile, loop pile and a combination of both.  All of them have different characteristics and you can choose one according to your space and demand.

Cut pile is the softest and the most comfortable of all the types of carpets. It does great wonders to the flooring and thus forms the most comfortable of all types. This is the reason that cut pile forms the largest share of the carpets that are used for residential purposes. Cut pile is produced by cutting the loops to the same height. Loops are formed by weaving the threads in the carpet; cutting the loops to the same height creates a dense appearance that looks great on the floor. Also if you live in a cold area you will love the warmth and feel of the carpet in your room.

Cut piles come in four major forms Saxony, Textured, Cable and Frieze. Saxony forms the most used and cheap carpet. Saxony is the commonest variety that comes in the strands of solid colors and has thousands of numerous designs. Textured carpets are very resistant to wear and tear and are less affected by the foot traffic. Frieze has an element of coolness and works well in hot areas. Cable renders a luxurious look to your place but should not be used in the high traffic areas.

Loop pile is the uncut form of the carpet. It is called as Berber by the common public. Loop pile carpet forms the best type of the carpet for the commercial usage. It has a very smooth texture and is available in various colors and designs to suit the space. The surface is not only smooth but also consistent and is used in high foot traffic areas. Therefore it gives best results in the commercial places that are visited by a large number of people daily. It does not wear away easily and similarly does not develop vacuum lines and footwear lines like the cut pile carpets. 

The combination of loop and pile has variable textures and comes in variety of colors and patterns. Many interesting patterns are formed in this way. It has different kind of finishes that may suit different types of locations. These carpets are also known as ‘sculptured carpets '.  They are good for both the residential and commercial purposes. They have the qualities of consistency, softness and comfort and give equally good results at home and or other places.
•    Saxony - Saxony is what probably comes to mind when you think of carpet — all those thousands of perfectly even, solid colored strands of fiber standing at attention like a freshly cut lawn. This is the stuff that's thick and soft and shows footprints and vacuum lines. You probably had it "wall to wall" when you were growing up. Today we know that Saxony tends to wear much quicker than other styles. It's probably best kept for those low foot traffic rooms — like the formal living room that Mom saved for "company."
•    Textured - If you don't require that "freshly mown" look to your carpet, then Textured is the way to go. Because it's twisted differently than Saxony and steamed to create a permanent curl, this product is "trackless" and reduces light reflectivity so it won't show footprints. Textured carpet is casual, it's cool and it will show far less wear and tear than other styles.
•    Frieze - There's nothing frosty about Frieze. Knobby, yes. Chilly, no. This cut pile offers a tighter "twist" than the textured style. The yarn actually curls over, creating a very durable and elegant product that hides footprints and vacuum lines.
•    Cable - This is the one cable in your home that won't go on the fritz. Constructed of longer yarn than its cut pile companions, Cable is beautiful, comfortable and very luxurious. It can crush and matte with heavy foot traffic, however, so we don't recommend Cable for parade routes, military yards or busy areas of your home.
LOOP PILE
Loop pile is how all carpet actually begins — uncut. Commonly known as Berber, loop pile carpets have a smooth, consistent surface with a lightly textured appearance that results from coloration and the way light reflects on the pile. Made from yarns that are looped into the backing, this popular style is perfect for high traffic areas of the home and can be found in many commercial settings.
CUT & LOOP
The combination of cut pile and loop pile provides for some interesting patterns that result from the variation in surface textures. Also known as "sculptured carpets," this popular style is great at disguising foot traffic and wear and offers a variety of surface finishes.

Where can i buy uncut mother of pearl?

I'm making my own electric guitar and thought i'd make some custom inlays down the fretboard. i need uncut mother of pearl so i can choose the pattern. where can i get some? and what are the prices?

Isn't Mother of Pearl basically oyster shell? If so, a trip to your local upscale supermarket where they sell fresh oysters in the shell should do it. It might take some effort to find the shell that has the pattern you want. But in the meantime, you'll get your fill of oysters.
