Once the Number One Banned Book Series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Movie Eagerly Awaited by Fans

Exploding onto the teen novel scene in 1997, the beloved heroes of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, quickly became the heroes of youngsters and grownups alike, all around the world. Of course, the Harry Potter publication collection (of which there have been seven, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows being the final chapter of a well loved tale) has seen its share of controversy, with conservative religious groups (both Christian and Muslin) petitioning for banning the books in schools and libraries around the earth.

In fact, in 1999 the mystical adventures of Harry Potter, with their focus on wizardry and magic, made them the most challenged books in the United States of that year, keeping company with such frequently banned classics as John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men, and J.D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye. In 1998, there were 26 challenges to remove Harry Potter books from public bookshelves in 16 states, and the momentum kept growing. Sadly, opponents of the boy wizard, Harry Potter, believed that anything mentioning a witch or magic spell is equated with evil and thought that kids couldn't distinguish reality from the fantasy of the stories.

Interestingly enough, in spite of all the controversy surrounding the Harry Potter line, in 1999, the number of book challenges in the U.S. actually dropped to their lowest levels since the ALA started tracking them in 1991. And, in the years since the initial controversy, challenges to the successful novel line have dropped off enormously. In the years 1990 - 2001, the Harry Potter line ranked seventh for the most frequently challenged books, and in the years 2000-2005, the set actually reached the number one ranking. However, by 2006 and the years since, the Harry Potter set no longer reaches the top ten in banned publication requests.

In spite of, or perhaps even because of the early controversy surrounding the unlikely hero and the cast of wizards, witches and muggles, the stories have created a whole new generation of readers, readers who love the idea of Harry Potter, improbable wizard and incredible hero. So, is it any surprise then that the excitement surrounding the release of not only the seventh and final chapter of this saga, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, but also of the movie by the same name is actually palpable?

Even better, as far as Harry Potter fans seems to be concerned, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be released in not one, but two movies, as so many plot lines and figures are integral to the tale and one two hour film just couldn't do it justice. But, perhaps the most exciting news of all is that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, parts I and II, will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D formats, allowing for ever more exciting and inclusive action.

Directed by David Yates, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows motion pictures will be the seventh and eight installments in this popular franchise, and will be the third film directed by David Yates. Steve Kloves, who also wrote the screenplay of the first four installments, along with the sixth film, wrote the screenplay for part I.

The planned nationwide release for Part I of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is November 19, 2010, with Part II following on July 15, 2011. Both videos will be released by Warner Brothers Pictures in 2D and 3D formats, as well as IMAX 3D. The 3D and IMAX format is a first for the popular set.majestic site.
