Take Control of Your Display With the NAVSWHEEL Tool.
The NAVSWHEEL that was introduced with AutoCAD 2010, or rather the Steering Wheel as they call it, improves your control over the on-screen operations.
ZOOM and PAN, the turning that you used to do with the ORBIT command have all been bundled into a single tool. Let's have a look:
The NAVSWHEEL is located in the first panel of the "View" tab of the ribbon command and it can also be activated using the NAVSWHEEL command. Since its a transparent command (a command you can run while other commands are active) it is better to use if from the menus.
You'll see a moving wheel once the command is active. This is called the "Steering Wheel".
This wheel helps you to carry out on screen operations with ease. I use the CENTER command to specify the PIVOT point first. These commands are very intuitive to use. You simply click and hold on the button and drag to perform the action. Let's specify our PIVOT point together.
Releasing the button places the PIVOT point as specified and centers the view on the PIVOT point.
ZOOM
Let's zoom. Move your mouse while keeping the ZOOM pressed down, viola!
The point you click on the ZOOM option is considered the PIVOT point and the image is zoomed. The command ends when you release the mouse button.
PAN
As simple as zoom, you can pan the view by keeping the PAN button pressed.
ORBIT
This option allows you to ORBIT around the PIVOT point that you specify with the CENTER command.
LOOK
You can think about this like walking around a model. You can't rotate it about as with the ORBIT, it only changes your point of view from the front view.
UP/DOWN
Prevents panning sideways, allowing you to pan just vertically.
WALK
Pans the view slowly in the direction you drag the cursor. It feels like walking, especially in architectural projects. It can be annoying at times as you have to keep pressing the button.
REWIND
Displays all view operations in thumbnails so you can switch easily.0
