Silk skirts have an elegance and richness all its own which cannot be compared with any other type. The finest of silks has been used by royalty and the rich to clothe them. Silk is a popular choice of material for wedding gowns and evening dresses, made by the fact of silk skirts draping so well... The texture of silk enables the material to drape well and is ideal for silk skirts that have gentle folds or pleats.

The plaid design is very popular. A plaid skirt with a white shirt and maybe a jacket or a waistcoat makes a very smart outfit for office wear. In winter many sweaters and jackets carry the plaid design. The plaid skirt made out of a woollen fabric worn with stockings and a self coloured shirt or blouse is a smart out fit.

Pastels are a very popular choice of young girls. Short skirts that are frilly or pleated and coming in soft pastels are popular choices for summer with the pink skirt being the most popular. With the colour pink being associated with Barbie many a pre teen is drawn towards that colour with a short pink skirt being a favourite. Sophisticated teens go into darker shades of pink and team their pink skirts with beautiful contrasting colour tops.

Skirts generally regarded as women's wear has found its way into the male closet too! The Scottish Kilt, the sarong which is a skirt – like garment, a traditional Grecian skirt like outfit known as the foustanella are some of them.

Some of the skirt styles are A line, pencil, gypsy, ballerina are some of a list too numerous to mention.

Skirts are fun garments and a very popular clothing item for travelling. The fact that it could be mixed and matched enables about three skirts and three tops, if carefully thought out, make for nine outfits. This is useful when clothing costs and packing space are to be considered.

A green,  yellow, blue or pink skirt, whether  it is a plain, dotted or plaid skirt, or if they are denim, cotton or silk skirts, it is a fashion garment to be reckoned with.
