handling the baby after birth vs during??

will someone please explain to me why when giving birth the doctor can literally twist and turn the baby by its neck? but then immediately after its as if they treat the baby like a porcelain doll? when the doctor does all of this, does it hurt the baby? what makes it okay to literally pull a baby out by its neck? if you did that otherwise it would surely break it.

It only looks like the baby's neck is being pulled and twisted. Actually, the baby turns in the birth canal as it is being pushed out, and the birth attendant usually just supports the head. The baby is usually face down, then turns to one side or the other so that the shoulders can come out.They may pull up on the head slightly to check if there's a cord around the neck, but no big pulling or twisting. Remember, babies are slippery so having a good hold on them as they are delivery is a must.
