Racism, All Over The World!

Racism all over the place~~~ All Over The World!

Even if many people think that racism is over long time ago, my experience living in America for 17 years has been to the contrary.

This is the time to talk about it and deal with it!

Many Whites Are Still Racist!

A White American asked me, "YoonOk, do you know any student who is looking for a room to rent? I have one room available in my house. I want NO Black people! Let me know if you know anybody."

Another White American told me, "YoonOk, you and I work so hard to feed LAZY Blacks."

Another White American said, "Blacks are so obsessed with the past."  

Another White American said, "Past is past!  I live in the present moment.  I take the garbage out.  I check on my neighbors to see if they need anything. I read Bible every day.  Blacks need to get over it and need to move on.  It's really their loss!"

I've heard these stereotypical comments from many White Americans while living in America.

It is important to note that some of my other White American friends dislike or even hate some White Americans who show racial bias toward others.

How about racism and bigotry in other countries?

There is racism in Sweden and  a number of countries in the Middle East. There is racism between different Jews from either being Jews from Europe or Jews from Arab countries. In a number of Asian countries, there is racism and discriminatory practice, mostly against foreign workers~~~Korea, China, and Japan all other countries.

It is also important to note that racism happens all over the world~~~There are many different types of racism and discrimination based on skin color, religion, sex, birth place, or national origin.

What will be your LOVE cure for people who have racial bias toward others?

What should we do to help those biased people to become anti-bias/anti-racist?

Now, strawberry is talking.  This is my third year for growing strawberries.  When I planted little tiny strawberry patches into the SOIL three years ago, I had NO idea about the life of strawberry.  Because I only knew one thing~~~eating red strawberries obtained by the grocery store. 

For these past three years of living next to the strawberry patches, I feel blessed in that I have learned many lessons from the strawberry.  These small little things have helped me to feel the inspiration in my life~~~have given me a gentle reminder about what I need to do with my life~~~have given me a chance to be a better listener ~~~all those things I have learned through the strawberry~~~I am grateful.

There are three main parts in the strawberry~~~ the roots, crown and leaves.  The roots are located or buried in the soil while the crown is located at the soil line, which is made up of woody stem tissue.  This is the place for leaf and fruit bud initiation as well as for plant support and storage of food reserves.  A strong and thick crown is necessary for good leaf and fruit production as well as plant survival.  During stressful periods, strong roots and crown play significant role to survive.  Lastly, the strawberry leaves are the site of the food making process, like most other plants.

Without the leaves, there is no fruit~~~no sugar~~~no food!

Without the crown, there is no leaf ~~~no fruit bud initiation~~~no plant survival!

Without the roots, there is no strawberry plant~~~nothing!

Each has its own purpose, like three main parts in the strawberry!

I can relate three main parts in the strawberry~~~ the roots, crown and leaves~~~to our race.  Blacks are our oldest sisters and brothers~~~ the roots!  Yellows and Browns are our second and middle oldest sisters and brothers ~~~ the crown!  Whites are our youngest sisters and brothers~~~ the leaves! 

We all are one family! 

When each does its designated responsibility, life is in peace and love.  If each member agrees on the rules and responsibilities and do what each supposed to do, there will NOT be racism or discrimination~~~but only Mutual respect and Co-existence!

When we think and act out our racist beliefs and values, there are people, especially women and children, around the world suffering in silence on violence and transgression.  This Racial belief is to bring more separation, more violence, more division, and more hate. 

We are no better than any other species in the Universe!

We are no worse than any other species in the Universe!

I'm standing up to those who have negative racial attitudes toward those of a particular race.

I'm standing up to those who are discriminated against based on race or place of birth.

I'm standing up to those who are indifferent and intolerant for their lack of desire to be educated about Racism. 

This is the TIME to narrow the gap between you and me about racism in order to improve humanity and the world for future generations.

We all are one Strawberry family!

We all are brothers and sisters!

We all are one family!

YoonOk Kim began writing after experiencing a near-death from her brain aneurysm rupture in 2007. After more than one month of hospitalization in the ICU, she came home with many setbacks.

When she felt she had NO hope and NO life, her backyard welcomed her to start new life...a new chapter. By working in the soil, planting seeds, and connecting to mother earth, she asked herself, "Who am I?".

With her feet and her two hands, like roots, connecting with the warmth of the mother soil, she dig up the soil to plant seeds of love and healing and peace.

In the same way she dig in her garden, she dig up the story of her mother and her grandmother, while the history of her birth land, Korea, lingers in the background.  Through the digging of the soil and the past, she now realizes that her family story is a part of history~~~not separate from it. Through the rootedness from the plants, she now feels and smells the soil.

This was how she started writing her stories to heal the root~~~protect our Mother Earth.
