Clever Dog Names Are Fun and Easy To Find

Dog names for your new puppy should be fun for you to come up with, not a chore. There are many strategies you can use to think up clever dog names. Using these strategies should result in finding the perfect name for your new pooch. What do you want your dog's name to mean? Are you partial to Biblical figures or saints and would like to name your dog after one of them? Maybe you'd rather your dog's name represent his breed? Why not both? You could name your german shepherd after the patron saint of shepherds, Drogo. Are you planning to train your dog to be a seeing-eye dog? How about Raphael, the patron saint of the blind? The patron saint of France is Denis, for your french poodle perhaps.

Maybe you would prefer to find a clever dog name that has meaning, but that is uncommon? You could try using names from different countries. Some Italian names that would be great clever dog names with meaning are Georgio (farmer) for your farming friend, Donatello (gift) if you got him for your birthday, Enea (born ninth) if she was the last born of a large litter, or Traviatta (astray) for your rescue pup.

From Germany you might find a clever dog name for your best friend. Some good ones are Freund (friend), or Herz (heart) for the one you love so very much, or Erhard (honor and bravery) for your watchdog, or your little chihuahua who is oh-so-brave.

The Celts gave us some wonderfully clever dog names. How about Brice (swift) for your new greyhound, Ervin (white) for an all white pup, Lee (healer) is a great name for a saint bernard, or Mungo (lovable) for your lovable little guy.

Let your TV set choose a clever dog name for you. As you flip through the channels you might run across the weather channel and find Tornado, Squall, Torrential (or Torrent), or Thunder. Tune in to a classic sci-fi channel for Godzilla battling Baragon, Kong, or Anguirus. Or the sci-fi show might be a classic Star Trek with characters like Spock, Sulu, Worf, or Keiko.

The radio also offers some clever dog names. Maybe you would like to name your dog for a famous musician or band? Some great bands that give us awesome dog names are Zeppelin, Pink Floyd (super for a pair of dogs), or Queen. Musicians have some cool and clever dog names, too, like Ashanti, Bowie, Louie (as in Armstrong), or Shostakovich (or you could use his first name, Dmitri).

If you have a pair of pups and want clever dog names for them, you could try Yin and Yang, Charlotte and Wilbur, Captain and Kirk, Harley and Davidson, Ken and Barbie, Frank and Stein, Starsky and Hutch, or Laverne and Shirley.

It really doesn't matter where you find your clever dog names, as long as they are names that you love and your puppy will grow into. Just have fun and you'll find the best dog names.
