Winkie Guard

Any advice on teaching my 21 mon old to hold his own "winkie" when going to the potty?

He won't sit down because of an incident where he pulled the guard off of the chair, and pinched his "winkie" when putting it back on. LOL. (not meaning to laugh, but it's what happens when little boys are "gifted". LOL). He now uses the potty chair as a step stool so he can reach to pee in the big potty. How do I teach him to hold on to it?, and also any advice on not making him pee on his legs when he starts and stops peeing. lol. (I've never had to do this for a little boy before). Oh yeah. My husband doesn't know what to do, bcause he sits down at home. My son has never seen another boy do this.

I have girls, so I don't have much experience with winkie-holding. (I'm a mom, contrary to what the avatar might lead you to believe.)
I just wanted to comment that I, too, think it's fine to use nicknames for private parts. I know it's so politically incorrect now, but who cares? My girls have a girlishness, and my older daughter came up with "dingle dangle" when she saw a little boy. We thought it was cute, and, really, where's the harm? She'll learn the correct anatomical terms soon enough.
Don't you hate it when people get on their high horse and tell you you're doing something wrong? I've had ignorant people tell me that I'll ruin my kids' eyes by letting them wear sunglasses! These were complete strangers! And they think it's better to expose those little eyes to unfiltered UV rays.

As for potty training, I think you should try to get him to sit without a guard. My girls stopped using one early on, too.
Otherwise, I'm sure your husband has peed standing up (or should I say urinated?) a time or two in his life, and he is the most appropriate one to be showing your son how to do it. He should take him with him when he goes to the bathroom and let him watch.

I want to mention that there is nothing wrong with men sitting down. In fact, it's often preferable because some of them don't have very good aim!
