Lucid Dreaming

"Suddenly I experienced that I was standing by the edge of my life path a very warm midsummer day. In the sky was the hot sun and I could feel the sunshine taking a bath on me. It was one of those red hot summer days that you speak of when you grow older.

In the old days, etc. What puzzled me was that it was so hot and why did I wear winter cloth. I was in fact wearing my winter coat!

I took at look around and to my astonishment, many of the familiar buildings seemed so strange to me.

My first thought was, what is happening to me?

All out of a sudden I felt such an exiting feeling that was overwhelming my whole body from the top of my head to my toes. I had never experienced such an excitement mixed with anticipation.

Suddenly it dawned upon me that I was in fact dreaming!

It was incredible and unbelievable. I was in fact actually awake but I was also inside my dream at the same time!"

The above is what actually happened to me one night many, many years ago.

At the time a was just a youngster, not more than 12 or 13 years old, but I can remember it as if it happened yesterday.

Even though I have experienced similar things and in fact better than the first experience, the understanding that I in fact had been fully awake whilst still inside a dream is something that I will remember forever.

What happened that special night is now known as a "Lucid Dream".

A Lucid Dream can be described as having a dream but at the same time being consciously awake.

For a long time most people didn`t believe that such a thing could happen, but now Lucid Dreams actually do happen to many people.

What`s the difference between a normal dream and a Lucid Dream?

You see, when you and I have a dream, we have very little control over what happen in the dream.

It is as though we are being swept along in a story and we have very little to say in what

happens in that dream.

In addition to this, crazy things may happen within the dream, but we just carry on as though nothing is out of the ordinary.

We tend not to rationalize anything or if we do, it gets explained away.

Not long ago a dreamed that I was talking to Tor, one of the greatest gods in the old Norse mythology. We were sitting quite happily chatting away in a park in the northern part of Norway.

Initially in that dream I didn’t question the fact that I was chatting with an old Norse mythology god! Soon after, the same skills that most of you can learn, enabled me to see the dream for what it was.

At that point I became lucid and had a wonderful experience!

What would have happened if I had not become lucid in that dream?

Of course I would have continued chatting with that old god Tor. When I woke up in the morning the next day I would see how ridiculous I really was for accepting such a really weird situation.

That is the key to lucid dreaming. When you become lucid, the consciousness and realization that you feel when you awake the next morning actually happens whilst you are still in your dream!

This ‘in dream’ awareness that you will feel enables you to exist in a dream world with the full awareness that you have in your everyday life.

The ability to be totally aware whilst still dreaming is what we call a Lucid Dream.
